Host an IGBO Tournament
SO YOU’RE READY TO HOST A TOURNAMENT IN YOUR AREA?
Hosting your own tournament can be very exciting and rewarding, but it’s a lot of hard work! If you don’t think so, just attend any IGBO Member Tournament and watch the committee members and volunteers – usually the folks that are not actually bowling! Better yet, ask a few of them; they’ll tell you! Usually, anywhere from 12 to 24 months of preparation go into putting on a successful three-day tournament event.
USBC provides an excellent online resource for updated rules at its web site at bowl.com. There is also a Tournament Managers Manual (PDF Format), an excellent source of information that includes specifics for anyone planning a Certified USBC tournament.
HOW ABOUT HOSTING AN IGBO ANNUAL OR MID-YEAR TOURNAMENT?
Locations for the IGBO Annual and Mid-Year Tournament events are chosen two years in advance by the IGBO Representatives during the General Membership Meeting. Prior to the actual voting, a committee from each interested city has already put in many long hours preparing their bid – lining-up bowling centers, banquet facilities and host hotels – all in anticipation of being awarded the honor of hosting the event.
After winning the bid, these same committee members begin a two-year process of carrying out their proposal. The end result—the greatest IGBO Conference & Tournament ever!
